제11회 부산국제영화제 개막식
제11회 부산국제영화제가 10월 12일 부산 수영만 요트경기장에서 열리는 개막식을 시작으로 9일 동안 계속되는 축제의 첫걸음을 뗀다. 영화배우 안성기와 문근영이 진행하는 개막식에는 개막작 <가을로>의 김대승 감독과 주연인 유지태, 김지수, 엄지원을 비롯해 박중훈, 장진영, 김민정, 이범수, 수애, 최강희, 천호진, 김수로 등의 국내배우, 심사위원장인 이스트반 자보와 브루노 뒤몽, 아볼파즐 잘릴리, 올해의 아시아 영화인상 수상자로 선정된 유덕화 등의 해외영화인이 참석할 예정이다.
10주년이라는 큰 고개를 넘어온 부산영화제는 역대 최고인 307편의 영화를 상영했던 작년보다는 규모를 줄여 246편의 영화를 초청했다. 이 중 부산영화제에서 최초로 상영되는 월드 프리미어는 65편. 상영작 수가 줄었는데도 월드 프리미어는 4편이 늘어나 11년 동안 꾸준하게 높아져온 부산영화제의 위상을 반영하고 있다. 여기에 차이 밍량의 <홀로 잠들고 싶지 않아>와 켄 로치의 <보리밭을 흔드는 바람>, 모센 마흐말바프의 <개미의 통곡>, 마뇰 데 올리베이라의 <세브린느, 38년후>처럼 이름만 들어도 기대가 되는 거장들의 작품도 두루 포진하고 있다.
예전처럼 예매 경쟁이 치열한 올해 부산영화제는 CGV 장산이 상영관 중의 하나가 되면서 작년보다 해운대 방면 상영관 비율이 크게 높아졌다. 야외무대도 남포동 PIFF 광장 뿐만 아니라 해운대에도 설치되었기 때문에, 좁은 거리가 인파로 넘쳤던 작년 영화제와는 다른 풍경을 만날 수 있을 듯하다. 10월 20일 폐막하는 부산영화제는 중국감독 닝 하오의 <크레이지 스톤>을 폐막작으로 막을 내린다.
The Festival Has Begun!
The 11th Pusan International Film Festival begins its nine day run on October 12th at the Suyeong Yacht Stadium. Korean actors Ahn Sung-kee and Mun Geun-yeong will leading the festivities, and Kim Daeseung, the director of the opening film <Traces of Love>, and its cast, Yu Ji-tae, Kim Ji-soo, and Uhm Ji-won, along with Park Joong-hoon, Jang Jin-young, Kim Min-jung, Lee Bum soo, Su Ae, Choi Kang-Hie, Cheon Ho-jin, and Kim Su-ro. Also scheduled are President of the New Currents Jury, Istvan Szabo, Jury Members Bruno Dumont and Abolfazi Jalili, and last year's Asian Filmmaker of the Year, Andy Lau.
With last year's 10th festival, the number of films reached a pinnacle of 307, and this year will feature only 246. However, this includes 65 world premieres. While the overall total is down, the number of premieres is four more than last year, and marks the most ever. Also included are a number of films by major directors, including TSAI Mingliang's <I Don't Want to Sleep Alone>, Ken Loach's <The Wind that Shakes the Barley>, Mohsen Makhmalbaf's <Scream of the Ants>, and Manoel de Oliveira's <Belle Toujours>.
Competition for advanced tickets is again fierce. What’s new is that the portion of screenings in the Haeundae area has increased dramatically. Also, Nampo-dong won't be the only site with an outdoor stage, with Haeundae now having one of their own. The curtains will finally close on this year's festival on October 20th with the closing film, the world premiere of Chinese director Ning Hao's <Crazy Stone>.
