주말 예매 폭주로 표 구하려는 노숙족 늘어

“표를 구할 수만 있다면 노숙이라도 해야죠” 10일 새벽 1시, 해운대 메가박스 매표소 앞. 통로에서 불어오는 차디찬 바람에도 아랑곳 않고 20여명의 관객들이 바닥에 누워 잠을 청하고 있다. 뒤늦게 노숙 대열에 동참한 이들은 영업을 마치고 문을 닫으려는 점포 주인들을 붙잡고서 침구 대용으로 쓸 신문지와 박스를 구하느라 정신없다. 일찌감치 눈을 붙인 이들이 대부분이지만 어두컴컴한 조명 아래서도 독서를 강행하는 이들도 있다.

노숙 행렬에 가담한 이수진(24) 씨와 이후용(26) 씨는 집이 코 앞. 그러나 전날 새벽 6시에 왔는데도 불구하고 예매 취소분을 확보하려고 극장 앞에 늘어선 기다란 인파에 놀라 “이러다간 주말에 원하는 영화를 보지 못하겠다는 위기의식이 발동해” 하룻밤 노숙을 결심하게 됐다. “<슈퍼 사이즈 미><월드 다큐멘터리3>를 보려구요. 나머지 2편은 시간도 많은데 천천히 골라야죠.” 마명한(19) 씨는 노숙 이틀 째다. 수능시험을 얼마 남겨두지 않은 고3 수험생인 그는 “<하나와 앨리스>를 보기 위한 방법은 극장 앞에서 밤을 보내는 것 밖에 없는 것 같다”면서 “이곳에 모인 이들은 다음날 뭘 볼지 전혀 말하지 않는 것이 특징”이라고 귀뜸한다. “몸은 좀 힘들어도 표 구하는데 있어 이보다 더 공정한 방법은 없는 것 같다”는 그는 “예년보다 기대를 모으는 작품이 많아서 올해 표를 구하기 위한 경쟁이 더 치열한 것 같다”는 분석을 내놓았다.

노숙을 택한 이들이야 표를 거머쥐었겠지만, 대부분의 관객들은 휴일에 발을 동동 굴려야 했다. 주말을 맞아 예매가 폭주하는 바람에 관람을 포기해야 했던 것. 영화제 쪽에 따르면, 주말 120회 상영 중 95회가 완전매진됐으며, 2~3석 정도가 남아 매진을 기록하지 못한 작품도 14편이나 됐다. 주말 이틀동안 6만3254석 중 5만3558석이 팔려나가 평균 좌석점유율은 83.3%를 기록했다. 개막일이었던 7일 좌석점유율은 56.7%였으나 주말을 넘기면서 좌석점유율은 10일까지 80%를 넘길 것으로 영화제쪽은 예상하고 있다.

Hard to get ticket

"If I can get the tickets, I will sleep in the open." 1 A.M. 10th, in front of Haeundae Megabox. Despite the cold wind blowing through the aisle, about twenty movie-goers are seeking for sleep on the floor. Those joining the ranks are busy trying to find newspapers and boxes for bedding materials from the shop owners closing their stores. Most have long fallen asleep, but under the dim lights, some are steadily forging onwards with their reading.

Lee Soo-Jin(24) and Lee Hu-Yong(26), among the crowd sleeping in the open, live across the street. However, having witnessed just a day earlier, despite having arrived 6 A.M., a long waiting line for canceled advance tickets, they decided to sleep in the open. "We figured, unless we do something else, we wouldn't be able to see the movies we want on weekends," says the two. Mah Myung-Han(19), at his second day of sleeping in the open tells, "I am trying to see <Super Size Me> and <A State of Mind>. I will take my time on my other two choices." A senior in high school with the college entrace exam drawing near, he carried on to say "Only way to get to see seems to be staying the night out in the movie theater. Those who are here don't tell the others what they are going to see the next day." He gave his analysis, "although it's hard on the body, it's the most fair way to get tickets. With more films drawing high expectations, this year's competition for tickets appears to be tougher than last year's."

Those who have slept in the open may have got the tickets, but most of the movie-goers were left impatient as advance sales skyrocketed on weekends. As of 1 P.M. of the 10th, all sold out films totalled 69 out of 262 films, and 173 films were sold out more than once. Seat occupation rate is expected to climb over 80% percent by the 10th, from 56.7% from the opening day of the 7th.
