4월27일부터 42개국 194편의 영화를 상영한 전주국제영화제가 예년에 비해 한결 성숙하고 성공적이었다는 평가를 받고 있다. 가장 큰 근거는 유로 관객수의 증가. 공식 집계가 나오지 않은 탓에 정확한 수치는 아니지만 영화제 쪽은 지난해 5만 2천명이었던 유료 관객수가 올해 1만여명 정도 늘어난 것으로 예상하고 있다. 지난해에 비해 57% 늘어난 888편의 영화가 출품된 올해 영화제를 향한 열기는 시작 전부터 예고된 것이었다. 개막일 기준 상영작 예매율 50%는 역대 최고 예매율을 기록했던 2005년 보다도 10% 높은 수치였다. 영화제쪽은 주말 관객을 배려하여 4월28일부터 30일까지는 전북대 문화관을 상영관에 포함시켰고, 관객들은 ‘불면의 밤2’ 상영시 1700 석 규모의 전북대 문화관을 가득 메우는 초유의 기록을 세우기도 했다. 흔히 비인기 섹션으로 분류됐던 ‘영화보다 낯선’, ‘로컬 시네마 전주’ 등이 매진을 기록하며 고른 지지를 얻은 것도 눈여겨 볼 만하다. 이밖에도 인포센터에 게스트센터, 비디오 시사실, 기념품 숍, 상영작 검색대 등의 서비스 공간을 일원화한 진행, 다양한 이벤트와 강연회, 시네토크를 확대 실시한 것 등이 좋은 평가를 받았다.

JIFF 2006 went on from 4/27, with 194 films from 42 countries, and was evaluated that it got improved a lot compared to last year. Major reason is the increasement of the audiences; although the number isn't counted officially yet, the headquarters assume that the audiences, who did pay, will be 10,000 more than the last year's 52,000. 888(57% more than last year) films that was sent, hoping to be shown in the festival, have foretold the successful festival in advance. 50 %, the ticketing rate on the opening day, was 10% higher than last year's, which also had rated the highest at the time. Furthermore, the additional theater (Munhwa Hall, Jeonbuk University) for weekend audiences allowed the super record of full 1700 seats being occupied at Munhwa Hall at Jeonbuk U for 'Midnight Obsession 2.' 'Stranger than Cinema' and 'Local Cinema in Jeonju', which used to be the least popular, were sold-out as well. Other than the screening records, info center, guest center, video room, souvenir shop, screening search booth, various master classes and having more cinetalk were also evaluated positively.
