The Film Industry Showcase Begins
With 16 nations and 67 exhibitions, the 2006 Busan International Film Commission and Industry Showcase (BIFCOM 2006) will run from October 15 - 18 on the second floor of the Haeundae Grand Hotel. Formed to promote both film locations and industries, the central focus of this year's BIFCOM 2006 is digital cinema. Exhibitions will address the entire production process, beginning with digital filming and post-production, and extending to mastering, transmission, and distribution.
Accordingly, this year's Industry Showcase includes demonstrations of cutting edge digital technology, including ARRI's D-20, engineered in the style of the traditional 35mm film camera, Thomson Grass Valley's Viper Film Stream Camera, used in the filming of <Miami Vice>, and the Sony F900R, a camera that became widely adopted after its use in the <Star Wars Episode> series. In addition, Korea's HFR and Japan's Imagica introduced their post-production systems, and a seminar featuring Korea's CJ CGV, China's Hualong Digital Film Production, and Japan's NTT assessed the current state of digital cinema in East Asia.
The "Location" section, formed to allow film commissions from across Asia to share information with industry reps from across the world, expanded this year to include New Zealand, Mexico, and Russia. Opening simultaneously with the Asian Film Market in hopes of facilitating a synergistic effect, this year's BIFCOM 2006 was expected to bring together more than 400 meetings between film commissions and production companies.
