제11회 부산국제영화제가 10월 12일 오후 7시 수영만 요트경기장 야외상영관에서 개막식을 가졌다. 오후 6시 30분부터 시작된 레드카펫 행사에서는 영화배우 한채영, 박시연, 정우성, 김태희, 김주혁, 장미희, 강수연, 박중훈, 엄정화 등과 영화감독 유현목, 임권택, 김성수, 김지운 그리고 아시아 영화인상 수상자인 홍콩배우 류더화가 카펫을 밟았으며, 마지막으로 김동호 집행위원장과 함께 개막작인 <가을로>의 김대승 감독과 유지태, 김지수, 엄지원이 입장하여 관객들의 열띤 분위기를 함께했다.
이어 사회를 맡은 영화배우 안성기와 문근영의 등장으로 막을 올린 개막식은 허남식 조직위원장의 개막선언과 함께 김성녀 교수와 신동호 교수의 축하무대 ‘천둥소리’가 펼쳐졌고, 김동호 집행위원장의 소개로 이스트반 자보, 문소리를 비롯한 뉴커런츠 심사위원단이 무대에 올라 관객과 인사를 나누었다. 이어진 개막작 소개와 무대인사에서 김대승 감독은 “영광스러운 자리에 초대해주셔서 기쁘지만 반토막 난 스크린쿼터 때문에 마음 한켠이 아프다”며 “우리나라가 세계문화다양성과 문화재산을 잘 지키는 나라가 되었으면 좋겠고, 그 싸움의 시작이 부산이길 바란다”고 말해 박수갈채를 받았다. 마지막 행사로 화려한 불꽃놀이가 해운대 밤하늘을 수놓았으며, 광안대교의 소등과 동시에 <가을로>의 개막 상영이 시작하면서 1시간 30분의 행사는 막을 내렸다. 제11회 부산국제영화제는 일반 상영과 야외행사가 시작되는 10월 13일부터 8일간의 본격적인 항해에 들어간다.
Let's have a blast! The Great Film Voyage Begins
The theater at Suyeong Yacht Stadium saw the opening of the 11th Pusan International Film Festival at 7:00 p.m. on October 12th. Festivities began at 6:30 with actors Han Chae-young, Park Siyeon, Jung Woo-sung, Kim Taehee, Kim Ju-hyuk, Jang Mi-hie, Kang Soo-yeon, Park Joong-hoon, and Eom Jeong-hwa and directors Yu Hyun mok, Im Kwon-taek, Kim Sung-su, Kim Ji-woon, and Asian Filmmaker of the Year, Andy Lau, taking the red carpet. Festival Director Kim Dongho came last with Kim Daeseung, director of <Traces of Love>, together with his cast, Yu Ji-tae, Kim Ji-soo, and Uhm Ji-won.
Actors Ahn Sung-kee and Mun Geun-yeong opened the ceremony, followed by a declaration from Chairman Hur Nam-sik and a song from Professors Kim Seongnyeo and Sin Dongho. Jurists for the New Currents Award, Istvan Szabo and Moon So-ri, were then welcomed by Chairman Kim Dongho.
In introducing his opening film, Director Kim Daeseung's statement was met with hearty applause: "While I'm honored by this invitation, part of me is pained by the halving of the screen quota. Our nation must defend the world's cultural diversity and I hope that the battle will begin here in Pusan." Magnificent fireworks closed the ceremony, and as the lights on Gwangan Bridge dimmed, <Traces of Love> began. With screenings and open-air events starting on October 13th, the next 8 days promise to be a real adventure.
