부산국제영화제가 중반을 넘으면서 야외행사장의 현장 통제를 문제삼는 불만의 목소리들이 속속 터져나오고 있다. 가장 문제시된 부분은 남포동 PIFF 광장 야외무대인사였다. 츠마부키 사토시, 강동원, 성룡, 문정혁(에릭) 등 국내외 인기 연예인들의 무대인사 일정이 잡힌 지난 주말의 남포동 PIFF 광장은 그야말로 인산인해를 이루었는데, 영화제쪽은 부산중구청으로부터 지원받은 1개 중대의 경찰병력과 영화제가 고용한 경호요원, 영화제 스탭, 자원봉사자 등 150여명의 인원을 투입하고도 현장을 통제하지 못했다.
특히 강동원, 안성기, 이명세 감독 등이 나선 9일 오후 <형사>의 야외인사 때는 무대 앞의 스피커가 떨어질 뻔해 사회자가 황급히 자리를 마무리하는 상황이 벌어지기도 했다. 관객들은 행사가 급작스럽게 끝나버린 것에 황당해하며 “구경온 사람들의 책임으로 돌리는 사회자도 어이없었고, 행사 주최측이 책임이 없다는 식으로 이야기하는 것도 어이없었다”는 등 홈페이지를 통해 비난을 가하고 있다.
츠마부키 사토시와 이병헌이 함께 한 해운대 오픈토크도 도마에 올랐다. 파라다이스호텔 야외정원에 설치된 오픈토크 현장에는 50여개의 관객석 앞에 배치된 취재진들이 수시로 일어나 사진을 찍는 바람에 자리에 앉은 관객들이 행사 관람을 온전히 하지 못한 것. 한 관객은 “관객을 위한 오픈토크였나?”라고 되물으며 “자원봉사자들까지 대놓고 앞자리에서 게스트들을 찍어대는 데 질렸다”고 했고 또다른 관객은 “몇시간씩 기다린 관객들은 다 들어가지도 못하고 기자들은 시작시간에 맞춰 프레스카드만 내보이고 유유히 들어갔다”며 “오픈토크가 아니라 클로즈토크”라고 표현했다.
“질서고 예절이고 온데간데없이 서로 밀치기 바빴다”며 관객들의 부족한 질서의식을 질타하는 발언도 없지 않다. 그러나 인산인해를 이루는 야외행사의 운영과 관련해서 영화제가 적극적인 대책을 고민해야 한다는 목소리가 관객들 사이에서 더 높다.“관객들이 정말 많이 몰려든다. 그 현장을 완벽하게 통제하기는 불가능하다”는 변명으로 해마다 되풀이되는 비판을 막아낼 순 없는 일이다. 열돌을 맞은 부산국제영화제가 어떤 해결책을 내놓을지 주목된다.
PIFF Plaza, a Battlefield
Voice of complaints on the problematic security system is rising as the festival passes its half. Nampodong PIFF Plaza’s open stage is where the complaints mainly come from. Last weekend, when people were flooding into Nampodong to meet the domestic and international stars such as Satoshi Tsumabuki, Dong-won Kang, Jackie Chan, Eric Moon, and etc, there were total of 150 people as security guards. However, they failed to control the plaza. There was even an accident at the stage on the 9th when Dong-won Kang, Sung-ki Ahn, Myung-sae Lee visited for their film <Duelist>. The speaker almost fell down and the moderator had to suddenly wrap up the event. Audiences were expressing their unpleasantness on the internet saying “It isn’t understandable that both the moderator and the event holders were not taking responsibility. The moderator even blamed the crowd.”
Hae-un-dae Open Talk, where Satoshi Tsumabuki and Byung-hun Lee were present, was not so quiet either. The Open Talk was set up in the garden of Paradise Hotel, however, because of the press staff frequently standing up to take pictures, the audience were not able to enjoy it. One audience said, “Even the volunteer staffs were taking pictures in the front. I’m fed up with this.” Another audience commented that this was a ‘closed-talk’ not an ‘open-talk’. “The audiences were waiting in line for couple of hours and still couldn’t get in. However, the reporters just walked straight through, showing their flash cards.”
Such inconvenience was not solely the Film Festival organization’s fault. However, although the audience may behave disorderly, the festival organization shouldn’t just say, “There are just too many people surging in. It is impossible to completely take control of the crowd.” and not take responsibility.
