드디어 닻은 올려졌다. 제10회 부산국제영화제가 10월6일 수영만 요트경기장 야외상영관에서 개막식을 열고 9일간의 대항해에 들어갔다.
오후 5시30분 지난 10주년을 회고하는 영화제 하이라이트 장면들이 흘러나오며 서서히 달아오른 야외상영관의 공기는, 오후 6시30분경 국내외 게스트들이 레드 카펫을 통해 입장하면서부터 본격적인 열기를 뿜기 시작했다. 개막작인 <쓰리 타임즈>의 감독인 허우샤오시엔을 비롯 임권택, 황정순, 앙드레 김, 쓰마부키 사토시, 차이밍량, 성룡, 비비안 수 등 국내외 게스트들이 입장할 때마다 관객석은 환호의 물결로 변했다. 이날 개막식에서 가장 눈길을 끌었던 것은 단체로 참석한 일본인 여성 관광객들. 그들은 강동원, 이병헌, 차태현 등의 한류 스타가 레드 카펫에 오르자마자 거대한 환호와 카메라 세례를 퍼붓기도 했다.
본격적인 개막식은 오후 7시30분 사회자인 강수연과 한석규가 입장하면서부터 시작되었다. 허남식 조직위원장의 개막 선언과 함께 보아의 축하공연이 이어졌고, 뉴커런츠 부문 심사위원단의 소개가 진행되었다. 개막식에 불참한 압바스 키아로스타미 감독을 대신해 마이크를 잡은 마키 카우리스마키 감독은 “30시간동안 날아왔지만 행복하다. 좋은 아시아 영화들을 많이 볼 수 있기를 바란다”고 소감을 피력했다. 이어진 개막작 감독과 배우 소개에서 허우샤우시엔 감독은 “<쓰리 타임즈>가 개막작으로 선정되어 매우 행복하다”며 관객들에게 감사를 표했다.
이날 개막식에 참여한 관객들은 APEC 정상회의 개최에 따른 보안 강화조치로 인해 빠짐없이 검색대를 통과해야만 했다. 하지만 입장 2시간 전부터 줄을서서 기다린 관객들은 별다른 불평없이 주최측의 검문에 성실하게 임하는 모습을 보여주었다. 제10회 부산국제영화제는 일반 상영이 시작되는 10월7일부터 본격적인 항해일정에 돌입할 예정이다.
Opening Ceremony
October 16th, the 10th PIFF finally raised its curtain with the opening ceremony in the Soo-young Bay Yacht Arena’s outdoor theater and began its nine-day journey. Highlight scenes of the film festival set the atmosphere on fire. The audience was most passionate during the entrance of the international and domestic guests at 6:30 pm. Guests such as Kwon-taek Im, Sung-gi Lee, Satoshi Tsumabuki and Jacki chan, were welcomed with great acclamations. Especially, Japanese women audiences were shouting with joy clicking their camera shutters when The Korean Wave stars like Dong-won Kang, and Byung-hun Lee appeared.
Main part of the opening ceremony was marked with the entrance of the MCs, Soo-yeon Kang and Suk-kyu Han, followed by the opening statement of the Festival Chairman Nam-sik Hur, the celebration performance by Boa, and the introduction of juries of the New Current section. Director Mika Kaurismaki grabbed the microphone instead of the director Abbas Kiarostami, who was absent, and said, “I am hoping to watch lots of great Asian films.” During the introduction of the opening film, , director Hsiao Hsien Hou showed his gratitude, “I am really honored to have screened as the opening film.”
All audiences attending the opening ceremony had to go through the security checkpoints, which were set up because of security issues with the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) being held the following month, however, there were no complaints about the inconvenience. The 10th PIFF will really pick up its pace when the general screening starts on October 7th.
