씨네다이어리 : 영화로 말하기
제6회 전주국제영화제가 마련한 학술행사 프로그램 ‘시네마 클래스’가 좋은 반응을 얻으면서 영화제에 새로운 의미를 주고 있다. 모두 여섯 번 열리는 ‘시네마 클래스’는 영화제 프로그램과 세미나 혹은 강연을 연계해 영화의 다양한 스펙트럼을 접할 수 있는 행사. 5월2일에는 ‘한국단편 세미나_씨네 다이어리: 영화로 말하기’와 ‘피터 쿠벨카와 함께 하는 “영화보다 낯선” 만남: 영화의 본질’이 열려 성황을 이루었다.
눈에 띄는 성과는 실험영화 작가 피터 쿠벨카의 두 번에 걸친 강연이다. 피터 쿠벨카가 자신의 영화 한편이 끝날 때마다 직접 설명을 해주는 형식. 유운성 프로그래머는 대중이 선뜻 다가서기 어려운 실험영화가 매진을 기록했다는 사실에 놀라움을 표하면서 “영화 상영과 강연을 결합한 것이 생각보다 성공한 요인인 듯하다. 내년에도 이런 프로그램을 기획할 생각이 있다”고 밝혔다. 지난해 처음 생긴 ‘영화보다 낯선’ 프로그램은 몇몇 감독이 초청됐음에도 대중의 외면을 받았었다.
같은날 열린 ‘한국단편 세미나_씨네 다이어리: 영화로 말하기’에도 관객과 취재진이 몰려 학술행사로는 성공적인 60% 정도의 객석 점유율을 보였다. 영화평론가 이명인 씨의 사회로 진행된 이 세미나에는 <영재를 기다리며> <폴라로이드 작동법>의 김종관 감독, <도로 눈을 감고>의 김현필 감독, <이렇게는 계속할 수 없어요>의 윤성호 감독 등이 참석해 패널로 나온 평론가들과 함께 사적인 기록으로서 영화의 가능성에 대해 토론했다(사진).
주말에 집중돼서 열렸던 ‘시네마 클래스’는 이제 한 번의 행사만 남겨놓은 상태. 5월3일 열리는 ‘마그렙 영화와 아랍 문화의 이해’에는 <재의 인간>의 누리 부지드 감독, 모로코 영화원 부원장 모하메드 바크림 등이 참석해서 모로코와 튀니지를 포함하는 마그렙 지역의 문화와 영화를 들려준다.
Cool! Cinema Class
The 6th JIFF is making a fresh meaning with good responses about the academic programs during the festival, ‘Cinema Class’. ‘Cinema Class’ of six sessions related with another festival programs, seminars or lectures, helps people to see diverse spectrum of Cinema. On May 2, ‘Korean Shorts Seminar_Cine Diary: Cinema as Private Writing’ and ‘Peter Kubelka: Essence of Cinema’ were held with a great success.
Twice lectures by Peter Kubelka, an experimental filmmaker produced an excellent result. JIFF programmer, Yoo Wun-seong said with his surprise at the fact that experimental films, which are unfamiliar and difficult for the general public, were sold out, “The key of success seems the combination of film screening and related lectures. In the next year, we have a plan to make the program like this.” Meanwhile, ‘Korean Shorts Sminar_Cine Diary: Cinema as Private of Cinema’ held on the same day are nearly full with many crowded audiences and reporters recording high rate of the seat occupation over 60%. ‘Cinema Class’ mostly held on weekend now remains one session: at ‘Discovery: Maghreb Cinema’ on May 3, Nouri Bouzid, director of Man of Ashes and Mohammed Bakrim, co-director of Morroco Film Center will participate and talk about culture and cinema in Maghreb.
