While the history of the Korean dynasty Joseon is not short of dramatic events and tragic destinies, few can compare with those that transpired from the political factions’ struggles that occurred in the wake of the 16th century. Dangyeong became embroiled in this when she fell in love with Prince Yi Yeok, while the latter’s half-brother Yi Yung also had designs on her. Yi Yung would later become King Yeonsan-gun, infamously known as the worst tyrant in Korean history, until a coup ended his rule and brought Yi Yeok to the throne.
